Electroweak Bubble Wall Friction: Analytic Results

We present an entirely analytic, leading log order determination of the friction an electroweak bubble wall feels during a first order electroweak phase transition. The friction is dominated by W bosons, and gives a wall velocity parametrically ∼ αw, and numerically small, ∼ .01 −− 0.1 depending on the Higgs mass.

Semi-Analytic Techniques for Fast MATLAB Simulations

Advances in electronics and telecommunications are leading to complex systems able to efficiently use the available resources. Fast electronics, complex modulation schemes and correction codes enable transmissions on channels with unfavorable characteristics, coexistence between different services in the same frequency bands and high transmission rates. However, the complexity of such communica...

Techniques for Developing Analytic Models

for developing analytic models of computer systems and subsystems relate to establishment of the level of system detail, to selection of signijicant parameters, to dejnition of analytic expressions, and to validation of model results. This paper emphasizes the use of discrete-event models in the development of analytic models, particularly with respect to identijication of key parameters and to...

Analytic Framework for Calculating Brdfs of Randomly Rough Surfaces

This report presents an analytic framework for calculating BRDFs (bi-directional reflectance distribution function) of randomly rough surfaces. The fundamental assumptions are the tangent plane approximation and statistical approach sufficiency. By treating a local surface area as its tangent plane, the tangent plane approximation validates the description of waves using geometric rays, and the...

Visibility Silhouettes for Semi-Analytic Spherical Integration

At each shade point, the spherical visibility function encodes occlusion from surrounding geometry, in all directions. Computing this function is difficult and point-sampling approaches, such as ray-tracing or hardware shadow mapping, are traditionally used to efficiently approximate it. We propose a semi-analytic solution to the problem where the spherical silhouette of the visibility is compu...
